#FutureOfLIVE – Campaign Recap

With the federal budget meeting approaching in a few weeks’ time, the #FutureOfLIVE campaign will finally come to an end. Will it end with the results we’ve been waiting for? No one, except the Minister of Finance, can predict. Our only certainty is that we’ve spared no effort to ensure that our recommendations have found their way into the pages of the federal budget.

Here’s a summary of our wonderful achievements since the campaign began in October 2022:

  • 107 personalized letters sent to 86 MPs from coast to coast;
  • 37 confirmed endorsements from MPs of all political parties (over 10% of the House of Commons);
  • 9 meetings with cabinet members or their staff;
  • Ongoing relations with the staff of the three ministers involved – Canadian Heritage, Finance and Tourism;
  • national action week marked by a press conference and the circulation of a series of video interviews;
  • Sustained media coverage during the last four months of the campaign, in both French and English language media;
  • Publication of an open letter from RIDEAU and RÉMI
  • 34 networks and associations sending a joint letter to Finance Minister
  • Submission of numerous pre-budget briefs and FAME’s appearance at pre-budget consultations;
  • Inclusion of one of our two recommendations in the pre-budget report of the Standing Committee on Finance.

Recommendation 224

Make the enhancements to the base budget of the Canada Arts Presentation Fund and the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in 2019–2020 permanent.

Shaping Our Economic Future: Canadian Priorities, Report of the Standing Committee on Finance

“The efforts made across the country in support of the FutureofLIVE campaign have been truly remarkable. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen such mobilization and solidarity within our industry. We have every reason to be proud!”
